Lee Byung Hun will take the lead role in the film "Nambeol" (남벌).

Set during the Joseon dynasty, the story follows the protagonist as he leads a group of warriors to Tsushima Island to rescue people captured by Japanese pirates.

Lee Byung Hun plays Im Ok, the leader of the warriors — a character known for his cool-headedness and an unshakable will forged on countless battlefields.

The film is being positioned as a martial arts action movie. Filming is set to begin in the second half of 2026.

"Nambeol" will mark the directorial debut of Lee Mo Gae, best known as the cinematographer for "12. 12: The Day", "Exhuma", and "Yadang: The Snitch". Having established himself as a leading cinematographer in Korean cinema, he has received numerous awards, including a Blue Dragon Film Award.

For Lee Byung Hun, the film will be his fourth historical period piece, following "Masquerade" which drew 10 million viewers in 2012, "Memories of the Sword" (2015), and "The Fortress" (2017).
